1st & 2nd Generation Token Ring chipsets

Andre designed the Token Ring MAC protocol circuits on the Protocol Handler chip of the first generation TI token Ring chipset (5 chips), which were developed as part of the publicly announced IBM/TI token ring joint development program.

He then debugged prototype silicon and system boards, and helped deliver it on time for system testing. Commercially available Token-ring cards from Olicom, Madge, Thomas-Conrad, & Synoptics used the TI chipset.

Andre was primary architect of TI’s “Eagle” 2nd generation Token ring chipset (2 chips). He also designed the CPU and Protocol Handler modules of the integrated controller. Chipsets based on this architecture were publicly available for over 10 years.

Later versions, such as the commercially available TI380C30 incorporated on-chip PHYs (which Mike worked on).

Andre also developed the “Super-Eagle” enhancement that added Ethernet functionality—TI’s first commercially available Ethernet  chipset.
